Collections of Poems.

I was looking at collections of recently written poems and I found a few that I thought were very good.

The first is called Love Poems for the Media Age, it is a collections of poems about technology's effect on our romances and love lives. Love Poems for the Media Age is both very witty and true, if you have a chance I recommend looking through it.

Another book I looked through that I enjoyed is called What the Wind Said by Ed Varney. What the Wind Said is the most recent collection of Ed Varney's poems. Ed is a prominent Vancouver poet, and in this collection he touches on everything from love and hate to attempting to deal with a midlife crisis.

Things That Keep and Do Not Change by Susan Musgrave, also a Vancouver poet, is the third book I thought worth posting about. Susan's husband was throughout his life a drug addict and a criminal, then cleaned up and lived a nice, peaceful life with Susan Musgrave for quite sometime, until he relapsed, began using heroine again and began robbing banks. His back slide into his old habits escalated when him and an accomplise on a job led the police through Victoria on a chase/shootout. In this collection some of the feelings Susan Musgrave must have been feeling during this time really come out as she conveys feelings of madness, rage, as well as desolation and other emotions.

this is a topic too large for me to do properly, but I thought I would say this, maybe get some sort of discussion going...On Eka's blog she had a post about Percy Byshee Shelley and posted a poem by her.

I enjoyed the poem but what made me post this post was one line especially, it is "Death, and his brother Sleep!" This is one comparison that I have run into all through out poetry, no matter how old or what style it is.

Everyone from Shakespeare to Nas poets have been fixated on deaths relation to sleep for ages. Im sure there are many other similar topics that plague poets everywhere, if you know of any please share them... We could discuss them, it would be GREAT.

a large source of a variety of poetry.

This site is a great source for poetry, old and new.

Saul Williams

Saul Williams has throughout his life earned my respect and appreciation more and more with every artistic endeavors of his I have heard of. He has rapped, sang, acted and preached, it was, and still is, his poetry that I have enjoyed the most. His way with words has always shown through his lyrics. Whether it be in a song, or a poem he has an uncanny ability to convey the richest images and emotions, with few words, a skill very few ever possess, and even fewer use to the extent he has.

This is a drawing done by Dwellephant (yet again, im swinging on chessnuts) inspired by one of my favourite of Saul Williams poem.
